Subdivision connections

If you’re developing a subdivision requiring less than 70kW, you'll need to work with us to get connected.

Sub-divisions and development connections - applications

Subdivision-related requests are usually more complex than a standard new build connection and may require assessment, design and a detailed quote depending on the stage and scope of your project.

Subdivision projects can involve different connection stages, for example:

  • a network capacity letter for council or planning
  • power to the subdivision boundary
  • power to individual lots
  • power to a new build on a subdivided lot

Timeframes vary depending on the complexity of the work and what stage your project is at. Once we’ve assessed your application, we’ll let you know what’s required and talk you through the next steps.

CONNECTION TO A SINGLE PROPERTY?

If you want to connect a single new home or building on an individual lot that has already been subdivided, please complete a NEW BUILD NEW CONNECTION APPLICATION.

CONNECTION BIGGER THAN 70KW?

If your subdivision or development requires a connection that exceeds 70kW, you will need to follow the LARGE-SCALE CONNECTION PROCESS.

ELECTRICITY CUSTOMER CONNECTION PRICING

Depending on your project, we may need to invest in new or upgraded network assets to supply electricity to your development.

This may be in the form of assets dedicated to your development, or assets that supply multiple customers (new or existing shared assets) and require further investment to facilitate supply.

When there are wider network benefits to the upgrade (over and above getting you connected), costs of new, or of upgrades to existing, connections may be shared.

ABOUT THE STEPS AND FAQs

There are several steps involved in assessing and progressing a subdivision-related connection request. The steps below are a general guide only and may vary depending on your project stage and complexity.

Got questions? Check out our FAQs here.

  • Step 1
  • Step 2
  • Step 3
  • Step 4

1 Pre-application

Complete the online application form linked above. Depending on your project stage, you may need support from your surveyor, consultant, developer representative or electrician to complete the form. They are accustomed to assisting clients with this.

Before starting your application, please have as much of the following information as possible:

  • your site/location details and a site plan
  • your surveyor or main project contact details
  • details of your subdivision, including number of lots
  • your electrical capacity requirements, if known, for example phases per lot and amps per phase
  • if your quote needs to include costs for street light reticulation, a street light reticulation plan
  • the stage your project is at, for example: capacity letter, boundary supply, lot supply or new build connection

If you are applying only for a network capacity letter, please clearly state this in the comment field in the application form.

2 Apply online

Complete your application online. One of our team will assess your request, confirm what type of application it is and let you know the next steps.

Depending on your project, this may involve engineering assessment, a capacity response or a detailed quote.

3 Assessment and quote

Once we’ve reviewed your application, we’ll confirm what is required for your project.

If design, project management or construction work is needed, one of our team will get in touch to discuss your requirements and provide a quote for the work required.

If your project proceeds to quoted works, we’ll let you know what payment is required before work can begin.

4 Works completed

If physical works are required, we’ll complete the agreed network work and let you know when that stage is complete.
