TLC and Genesis support Tūrangi Foodbank with electric vehicle

A new electric vehicle will help the Tūrangi Foodbank team continue delivering essential support to families and whānau across the wider Tūrangi area, thanks to a partnership between The Lines Company (TLC) and Genesis.

The vehicle was officially handed over to the Foodbank on Wednesday 29 July in Tūrangi, recognising the important role the organisation plays in providing food, practical help, care and connection to people who need it most.

TLC chief executive Mike Fox said the initiative was a strong example of organisations working together around a shared purpose.

“At TLC, we are committed to making a tangible difference in communities, and this project reflects that in a very practical way,” Mike said.

Maggie Stewart and her team are extremely grateful for the support.

“This EV is more than just a vehicle. It helps our team reduce transport costs, spend less on fuel and focus more of their time and resources on supporting local people. It means we can reach more families, cover more ground and continue our work across the wider Tūrangi community,” said Maggie.

“We are incredibly proud to support Maggie and the Tūrangi Foodbank team, and grateful to Genesis for helping turn a good idea into something that will make a real difference on the ground,” Fox said.

Genesis’ Chief Operating Officer Tracey Hickman said the partnership aligned closely with Genesis’ commitment to invest in communities closest to its generation sites and support initiatives that are led by, and for, local communities.

“Genesis is privileged to operate in some of Aotearoa’s most special places, including communities close to our generation sites,” Tracey said.

“By investing long-term in local communities, we can help support local aspirations, build capability and strengthen resilience. This initiative is a practical example of what can happen when partnerships are shaped by the community, for the community.

The Tūrangi Foodbank provides practical support to people across the community, helping ensure families and whānau can access food and other essential assistance when they need it.

Fox said TLC was proud to be part of a project that would have an immediate, practical benefit.

“It is a great example of what happens when we combine the power of partnerships with the power of electricity,” he said.

“Together, we are helping power a community organisation that quietly makes a massive difference every single day.”
