TLC Scholarship open for applications

The Lines Company is pleased to announce that its 2025 Inspiring Local Minds Scholarship is now open for applications.
“Helping local young people realise their potential through tertiary education is important to us,” said TLC’s Chief Executive Mike Fox.
“In the past we have supported students through a range of studies from science, technology and law to commerce and marketing.”
If you’re a young person and have big dreams about tertiary study, this is your chance to be one of three to receive $6,000 over three years to support your studies.
Scholarship recipients are chosen by a selection panel that includes TLC’s Chief Executive and TLC’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager, alongside a Trustee from TLC’s shareholder Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust (WESCT).
Supported by WESCT, TLC introduced the Inspiring Local Minds Scholarship programme in 2018. Since inception 30 young people have been awarded scholarships. Recipients must live or go to school in TLC’s network area.
Una Drayton, a 2023 recipient currently doing an engineering degree, was extremely grateful to receive the scholarship. Una has subsequently returned to TLC’s network area to conduct a practical research project into smart metering. This work is now being shared with other EDBs and has positive uses across the sector that will benefit customers.
Fox was thrilled to see one of TLC’s scholarship students doing important practical research on the network.
“TLC takes great pride in our scholarship initiative, helping to nurture the next generation of experts,” said Fox. “It’s even more rewarding when this investment makes a difference by benefiting our customers in the future. Una’s study and research work are great examples of why this scholarship is so important – to us at TLC, and the community. It’s a great investment into local young minds.”
Applications for the 2026 year close on 31 August 2025. Applicants must live in the TLC network area. Studies must be in a profession linked to jobs at TLC.
