TLC sponsored national shearing champs to get underway

25 March 2023

The New Zealand Shearing Championships are being held in Te Kūiti from Thursday, 30th of March through to Saturday, 1st April and The Lines Company (TLC) is proud to be a key sponsor.

Springboarding off the back of two local world record shearing events, the third in the series of TLC sponsored competitions is the pinnacle event on the shearing competition calendar – the Nationals.

TLC’s customer and community engagement manager, Anne Terry, says the electricity distributors’ sponsorship could go a long way for the King Country.

“The farming and wool industries have been, and continue to be, a major part of our local economy and community – and we’re so pleased to be able to support events like these.

“We hope our sponsorship will help put King Country shearing at the top of the table and maybe even return the New Zealand Shearing Championship title back to our community,” says Terry.

In December 2021, TLC sponsored Fagan Shearing’s 5 stand 9 hour world record attempt which the team smashed with a tally of 3,740. Then in December 2022, Jack Fagan tackled the eight-hour solo lamb shearing world record. A record he claimed with a record tally of 754 lambs shorn.

“We’re so proud of what these world record holders achieved, and to have played a small part – we’re all about helping our community thrive, what better way to do that than help people achieve their goals,” says Terry.

The New Zealand Shearing Championships will be held in the main hall at the Les Munro Centre, on King Street in Te Kūiti, a full list of classes for the event and other information can be found at www.nzshears.co.nz. The entire event will also be live streamed on the NZ Shears Facebook page
