Local groups encouraged to apply for community sponsorship round

8 March 2023

The Lines Company’s (TLC) $10,000 funding round looks to support local community groups.

TLC has kicked off their first of three community sponsorship rounds for 2023. With $10,000 up for grabs, local community groups with a project or a plan are encouraged to apply. Applications focusing on children, youth and whānau or energy efficiency will be preferred.

Since 2017, TLC has proudly offered contestable sponsorship funding to groups within the network region, helping to support a variety of community projects, including:

  • Tongaporutu Summer Events
  • Coast Sports Athletic Club
  • Waikato River Trails Trust
  • Tongariro Junior Rugby
  • Benneydale Children’s Christmas Party 2022
  • Tūrangi Christmas Picnic in Te Kapua Park
  • Tirohanga School
  • Mōkau School
  • Piopio Youth Sports Committee
  • Piopio Cosmopolitan Club Hunting
  • Ngā Hau E Whā Maara Kai Charitable Trust
  • Ngakonui Valley School

TLC’s last sponsorship round, in October 2022, saw 12 successful applicants obtain funding.

Waikato River Trails Trust was one of the successful applicants who received $1,000. The funding went towards their family-friendly Summer Sizzler event. The Trust was extremely grateful for the sponsorship, saying, “Just a big thank you for the support…We were able to provide a family fun event while increasing awareness of the trails.”

TLC Acting Manager Network, Craig Hackett, said the Company, along with shareholder Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust (WESCT), placed emphasis on adding value and supporting community groups where possible.

“As a community-owned Company, we’re really proud to be able to give back to our communities.”

“Through multiple investment channels, such as scholarships, community events, sponsorship funding and partnerships with local organisations, we’re able to support local initiatives and add value to our communities,” said Hackett.

TLC’s fund will prioritise projects or events that have high visibility, benefit local communities, reach many people, and improve the lives of people living within the TLC network.

Applications for TLC’s March community funding round are available online, with applications closing Friday, 31 March.
