If you have a new smart meter you’ll be charged based on how much electricity you use and when you use it, which means your bill will vary each month.
Prices will vary according to the time of day you use electricity, you’ll pay less during off-peak pricing times and more during peak.
7am – 9.30am and 5.30pm-8pm
9.30am – 5.30pm and 8pm-11pm
11pm – 7am
Having set pricing times mean you can look at moving when you use electricity for certain appliances. For example, you may decide to run your washing machine only during off-peak times when the prices are at their lowest.
Some customers’ bills will go up and some will go down compared to our current pricing. Your bill will depend on how much electricity you use and when you use it. If you happen to use more electricity one month it will only impact your next bill – not your bills for the entire year.
We still need to load control to help manage our network. For most customers the kW load created through the winter of 2018 will not affect future pricing.*
* Load control will affect those customers who have entered into a load agreement.
We will be sending all this detail in July. We are also developing a range of tips and tools to help you save energy and we’ll be letting you know more about these as we get closer to October.
From February to August
Updates will be made to existing smart meters to change the way they record energy use in preparation for the new pricing. You can find more information about the meter update here.
We’ll begin giving our customer more details and information about the new pricing.
We expect to confirm and let you know what the new prices will be.
From 1 October 2018 the new pricing will come into effect.
