Getting a New Meter

The Lines Company is progressively upgrading all our customers to smart meters due to the wide-ranging benefits they offer.

We will send you a letter and then follow up with a phone call when it’s your turn to be upgraded.

You do not need to be home when your meter is changed, unless your meter board is located inside or somewhere our installer will require special access.

We strongly recommend you unplug any sensitive items such as computers, televisions or other appliances that contain a computer chip. If you’ll be out all day, please leave your fridges and freezers plugged in.

If the new meter won’t fit on your current meter board, or there is any issue with your old board, your meter won’t be changed on the day. Instead, we’ll contact you to discuss your options.

Further information about smart meters, including FAQs, are available on the Electricity Authority’s website here or read some of our FAQs here
